Lab
Facilities and Equipment - get insights to our lab
Our laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art instruments and facilities that enable advanced research in drug delivery systems and biomaterials. In addition to the devices listed here, our student laboratory features equipment for tablet coating, small-scale sterile eyedrop manufacturing, and tablet production, including both an eccentric tablet press and a rotary tablet press.

In Vivo Imaging System
The newest addition to our state-of-the-art euipment: The Newton 7.0 FT by Vilber for in vivo bioluminescence and fluorescence imaging.

GPC
Gel Permeation Chromatography by Shimadzu for the determination of the molecular weight of polymers.

HPLC
High-performance liquid chromatography by Hitachi for precise separation and analysis of compounds. Available detection methods include UV-Vis detector, fluorescence detector and refractive index (RI) detector.

Fluorescence Microscope
High-resolution imaging for biological samples with multiple fluorescence channels.

Cell Culture Hood
Laminar Air Flow work benches by Thermo Fisher ensuring a sterile environment for cell culture experiments.

Tecan Spark
Multiplate reader by Tecan for fast measurment of absorbance or fluorescence intensity and according spectra. Equipped with multiple filters and a monochromator offering a wide range of flourescence intensity measurements.

FT-IR
Our lab uses the PerkinElmer UATR Two accessory with the Spectrum Two™ FT-IR to perform quick, non-destructive analyses of solids, liquids, and pastes. Its durable diamond crystal makes sample preparation effortless and ensures reliable, high-quality spectra for all our materials.

Rheometer
Rheometer by Haake Mars (Thermo Fisher) for determination of flow behavior, viscous behavior and viscoelastic behavior.

Texture Analyser
Texture Analyser (Material Testing Machine) by Stable Microsystems for determination of tablet strength (hardness, coating adhesion, layer shear, disintegration, swelling), gel and mucoadhesion characteristics, capsule and powder compressibility, syringe and device forces, film and patch tensile properties.

DLS/Particle Sizer
Zetasizer by Malvern fo the determination of particle sizes via Dynamic Light Scattering and zeta potential measurement.

Microfluidic Device by ElveFlow
Microfluidic Device by ElveFlow for the preparation of nanoparticles.

Microfluidic Device NanoSpark
Microfluidic Device for smaller sample amounts.

Microwave Reactor
The CEM microwave reactor uses controlled microwave energy to rapidly heat chemical reactions, improving reaction speed, yield, and reproducibility.

Freeze Dryer
Gamma 1-16 LSC by Christ: a Laboratory benchtop unit, also for larger sample quantities.

High Pressure Homogenizer

Analytical Scales
The Bernkop Lab is equipped with multiple analytical scales offering the possibility to weigh-in small sample amounts for precise analysis. Their readability goes up to 0.01 mg. Brands include Sartorius, Mettler Toledo and Kern.

Thermomixers
The Bernkop Lab is equipped with multiple thermomixers being the basic equipment for all kinds of experiments. Let it be incubation for stability studies, release testing or more. Heads for the thermomixers come in different sizes ranging from 0.5 ml Eppendorf Tubes to 50 ml Falcon Tubes.

pH meters

Centrifuges (MiniSpin)
Completing the basic equipment of a lab: Eppendorf MiniSpins

Incubators
Incubators in different sizes and variations for performing experiments at body temperature or incubation of samples
